A Wayang kulit is a traditional Javanese puppet theatre usually involving 2 or more actors. In reality, life is a “wayang” only on the surface especially in politics where appearances are often deceptive.
All Singaporeans are paying members of this exclusive “Wayangparty Club” called “Singapore” where we “vote” every 5 years to keep the same old “management committee” to run the club on our behalfs.
Are we real stakeholders of this “club” ? We are compelled to pay hefty “annual membership fees” to be part of the “club” and yet only few members of its “management committee” are permitted to enjoyed its facilities.
In the beginning, only those born in Singapore are given the “club membership”. However in recent years, the “club” has opened its doors to foreigners who are given places on its “management committee” while native Singaporeans are enslaved to serve as cheap labor by doing “national service” for the “club”.
Is this “club” becoming a “wayang party” for foreigners ? Are they truly loyal to the “club” or will they take flight to another “club” once there is a better offer ?
